What are Expiring Messages
As a business customer, you are probably aware that we support Omnichannel messaging. As described in our **What are Channels?** article, we want to provide our customers' customers with options when it comes to receiving messages.
When messages are sent to subscribers via our MessageSpring app, they are not inherently public. This means that our customers are in control of their messages. For example, they can unsend them if there was an error or they were time sensitive.
However, when messages are sent outside of the MessageSpring app (e.g. SMS or Email), our customers lose control of how long those messages are in the public domain. The reason is that we make those messages available as links to micro websites. For most messages, this might not be an issue. For other messages, our customers might not want those available on the internet for all to see forever.
We handle this case by allowing the sender of messages to either Unsend the message (after sending) or set an expiration date to the message(before sending). See the image below to see how to add an expiration value to the message.
After a message has been unsent or expired, we show viewers a nice webpage rather than a scary 404 page.
